Thuso Mbedu reflected on the last year in an Instagram picture she published on December 28. In a video, the South African-born actress reminisced with her co-stars from the film The Woman King.
Since acting opposite Viola Davis in the blockbuster film, Mbedu has had an eventful year. She worked nonstop, including on her birthday. The cast members were at a photoshoot and seated at a table in identical formal gowns, preparing to be photographed, when they shocked Mbedu by singing “Happy Birthday” to her.
Suddenly, a member of the photographic staff entered the scene bearing a round chocolate cake.
It was evident from the clip that Mbedu had no idea that her co-stars had created something special for her. As upset as she was at the time, she covered her face before wiping away a tear and giving out a cute shout of delight.
Mbedu released a clip with four of the film’s cast members, including Davis, on her Instagram account. The black-clad ladies could be seen dancing at their seats and slapping the table to make rhythms while they sang to the birthday girl, making her feel extremely special.
In his description of the video, Mbedu wrote:
“As I peruse my files to reflect on the year, I realize I neglected to share this moment…
“We had planned to be in New York on this day, but it was the only day on which all five of us were accessible for this iconic picture… Additionally, it was my birthday (in July)
Always appreciative of these lifelong memories. She continued.
