Three-year-old youngster, 79-year-old pensioner dead in M6 crash

A three-year-old child and a senior citizen were killed after a Porsche Boxster collided with a Vaxuhall before overturning and catching fire.

Yesterday at approximately 5.50 p.m., emergency personnel were called to the horrible scene on a section of the M6 in Preston, Lancashire.

The motorway was stopped in both directions for several hours, and the closures remain in place this morning, as a result of an accident that resulted in two fatalities and two critical injuries.

According to the Lancashire Constabulary, a three-year-old girl and a 79-year-old man have died.

According to Lancashire Live, it is suspected that the Porsche driven by the 79-year-old man collided with the Vauxhall Meriva in which the young girl was traveling.

The vehicle rolled onto its side before catching fire. Today, two lanes in the southbound direction remained closed due to urgent surface repairs.

Two adults in a Vauxhall Meriva sustained life-threatening injuries and were sent to the Royal Preston Hospital for treatment. The police are currently seeking witnesses to the fatal collision.

Sgt. Craig Booth, a Serious Collision Investigator from the Tactical Operations Unit of Lancashire Police, stated, ‘These are extremely awful circumstances.

“This was a horrible scene for all witnesses and emergency personnel, and I would want to thank them for their efforts in dealing with a horrific situation.”

We are interested in hearing from anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident.

National Highways issued the following statement yesterday night: ‘The southbound lanes of the M6 in Lancashire between junctions J29 (Preston) and J28 (Leyland) are blocked due to a significant accident involving a car that has overturned and caught fire. Additionally, lanes 2 and 3 on the northbound carriageway within J28 are closed.

“All emergency services are there, including the Lancashire Police,” National Highway Traffic Officers are also assisting with traffic management at the incident site.

“At this time, all traffic within the closure has been released.” It is anticipated that the closure would continue in effect for several hours to allow for police investigation and clean-up.”
