Thomas Tuchel says he will speak to Jude Bellingham before deciding England squad inclusion ahead of World Cup qualifiers in North America

Even without Jude Bellingham in the lineup, England’s squad is showing the kind of form that makes World Cup qualification look almost effortless.

After securing a commanding 5-0 victory in Latvia on Tuesday, the team confirmed their spot in next summer’s tournament in North America.

This followed another identical scoreline in Serbia last month, again without Bellingham, highlighting the strength and depth of Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Tuchel Signals Conversation Before Decisions

England head coach Thomas Tuchel has made it clear that Jude Bellingham’s potential return to the squad won’t happen without a conversation first.

Tuchel is keen to reinforce that his expectations for player conduct are “non-negotiable,” and anyone joining the squad must fully commit to the team spirit.

“I will speak to Jude before making a decision,” Tuchel said. “He’s an important player, a big player.

I also reach out to others who weren’t in camp—they’ll get messages from me. It’s not punishment; it’s about staying connected and ensuring everyone is motivated to contribute.”

Team Spirit Remains a Priority

Tuchel’s recent comments follow his previous remarks about Bellingham’s on-field behavior, which he called “repulsive” at the time—remarks he later apologized for.

The coach emphasized that returning players must embrace the collective ethos that has powered England’s recent victories.

“One hundred per cent,” Tuchel said when asked if players had to buy into the squad spirit.

“If we invite them, we are sure they will buy in—or we will not invite them. Why would we? This is non-negotiable.”

Depth and Competition Drive the Squad

Tuchel also highlighted the depth of England’s squad. Players like Conor Gallagher, Trevor Chalobah, and Cole Palmer (when fit) are all pushing for spots, showing hunger and determination.

The coach praised the effort of the current squad, noting that success isn’t just about big names but about cohesion and commitment across the board.

“These guys here now feel the reward,” he said. “But we trust a lot of players who aren’t in camp.

They are eager to come back, and that’s exactly how it should be.”

From June Setback to World Cup Contenders

England’s transformation since the 3-1 friendly loss to Senegal in June has been remarkable.

Tuchel’s team has racked up six straight qualifying wins, scoring 18 goals without conceding any.

That momentum has boosted confidence heading into next summer.

“Winning the World Cup is a possibility,” Tuchel reflected. “I can’t promise it, but with a strong team, cohesion, and the right spirit, we’re building something solid.

You can see it on the pitch, and that’s the foundation for everything.”
