The state administration of Edo State has created a 90-day actionable plan to make the state more business-friendly and attract investment in an effort to increase the ease of doing business there.

This information was provided in a conversation with journalists in Benin City by Mr. Kelvin Uwaibi, the managing director of the Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO).

Identifying performance metrics for implementing MDAs, governance structure for handling ease of doing business reforms, and operating model implementation, he said the new action plan highlights the role of key stakeholders involved in the ease of doing business ecosystem in both the public and private sectors.

According to Uwaibi, some of the measures taken by Edo State to encourage business growth include ongoing institutional reforms, simple access to energy from Ossiomo Power Company, improvements to the road network, and the opening of the small claims court.

The “Open-Door Court House to expedite the resolution of business disputes, while the Edo State Skills Acquisition Centre (EDOJOBS) handles issues with human capacity,” he continued, is one of the other efforts.

While the Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO) oversees a smooth investment process, the Edo State Public Procurement Agency (EDPPA) has ensured transparency in public procurements.

“Land management has been loosened by the Edo State Geographical Information System (EDOGIS).

Obtaining your Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) is fairly simple, and the Edo Production Center is available to help the state’s Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)

According to Uwaibi, KPMG professional services performed an empirical field study on the ease of doing business at the subnational level between November 2020 and January 2021.

The results were stated to reflect the viewpoint of the private sector, and Edo is eager to have its measurements recorded.
