In accordance with the Improving Access to Medical Care for Hotel Employees Ordinance, the Seattle Office of Labor Standards (OLS) has released the adjusted rates for 2023 healthcare costs.

Employers who own, manage, or operate a hotel or motel in Seattle with 100 or more rooms or a “ancillary hotel business” with 50 or more personnel globally are considered covered employers.

Employers who are covered by the law are required to pay for each covered employee’s medical treatment directly or on their behalf. Every year, the levels for healthcare expenses are changed.

“Please see the OLS website and our resources on this law.”

The adjusted rates for the 2023 calendar year (January 1 to December 31, 2023) are:

  • $518 per month for an employee with no spouse, domestic partner, or dependents;
  • $881 per month for an employee with only dependents;
  • $1,036 per month for an employee with only a spouse or domestic partner;
  • $1,555 per month for an employee with a spouse or domestic partner and one or more dependents.

Depending on the kind and size of the covered employers, this law has a range of different effective dates. It became effective for some people on July 1, 2020.

For more information about when the law goes into effect for different employers, please visit the Office of Labor Standards webpage on this law.

Before the revised rates go into effect on January 1, 2023, an updated Questions and Answers document and notices of rights posters for hotel employees and ancillary hotel employees will be made available.

Currently, both posters containing the 2022 rates, available in 15 different languages, can be found here.
