The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to curbing the spread of small arms and light weapons throughout the nation.

As part of the events commemorating the 2022 Nigerian Army Day Celebration, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya, stated this at the media briefing on Monday in Owerri.

He expressed concern over non-state entities and unlicensed individuals possessing guns, adding that the national centre for the regulation of small arms and light weapons was assiduously working to stop the threat.

Lt. Gen. Yahaya advised those who finance the production of weapons and arms to hold off or prepare to engage in combat because the army would use every means possible to track them down.

He also urged Nigerians to work together to inform the proper authorities whenever they suspect someone of illegally possessing a firearm.
