Drivers of Volkswagen Amarok models in South Africa are being urged to act quickly after the National Consumer Commission (NCC) announced a recall of 374 vehicles.
The recall follows a safety alert from Volkswagen South Africa, with concerns linked to a fault in the braking system.
Which Vehicles Are Affected
The recall applies specifically to Amarok units released between 10 January and 12 June 2025.
The issue has been traced to the electromechanical brake servo control unit, a fault that could cause a loss of braking assistance.
While the brakes still work, drivers may have to press harder than usual to stop, potentially leading to longer braking distances and a higher risk of accidents.
Urgent Advice for Amarok Owners
NCC Acting Commissioner, Thezi Mabuza, urged affected consumers to treat the recall seriously.
“Consumers should take their vehicles to any approved Volkswagen dealership for an immediate inspection.
The assessment and repairs will be done at no cost,” he explained.
The NCC emphasized that recalls are an important safeguard under the Consumer Protection Act, designed to remove faulty products from circulation and keep consumers safe.
Previous Vehicle Recalls
This is not the first time the NCC has flagged potential dangers in vehicles this year.
In August, the commission issued a recall advisory for several models, classifying the defects as “voluntary, but urgent” due to the safety risks uncovered.
Volkswagen’s Next Steps
Volkswagen South Africa has assured drivers that it will contact all affected Amarok owners directly.
Until then, motorists are advised not to delay in booking their vehicles in for inspection and repairs.
