The Labour leader may have only a few hours’ notice before Durham Police reveal to the public whether or not he has been fined over ‘Beergate’

Durham Police may give the Labour leader only a few hours’ notice before announcing to the public whether or not he has been penalised in connection with “Beergate.”

The findings of a detective inquiry into claims that Sir Keir Starmer and his associates violated lockdown regulations are anticipated to be made public soon.

On April 30 of last year, when indoor social meetings were outlawed, Sir Keir and his deputy Angela Rayner enjoyed a beer and a takeout curry at Durham Miners Hall with Labour MP Mary Foy and other party members.

However, Sir Keir has vowed to step down if he receives a fixed penalty notice for breaking the rules, notwithstanding the claims of those involved that it was an election campaign work event.

The announcement date has been withheld by Durham Police, but one report claims that the agency will make a public announcement barely two or three hours after the Labour leader and party attorneys are notified of the choice.

The high-profile judgment will be made public “as soon as is reasonably possible,” despite the fact that officers will give Sir Keir and his colleagues some time to evaluate the results.

Following a series of Daily Mail stories, the force opened an inquiry into the purported social gathering eight weeks ago. After criticizing the Prime Minister for breaching the law in Downing Street, Sir Keir is being charged with hypocrisy.
