Jonathan Roumie Reflects on His Role as Jesus

Jonathan Roumie, the actor known for his portrayal of Jesus, spoke about how deeply personal it is for him to bring these moments to life on screen.

As a practicing Catholic who celebrates the Triduum (the period of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday), he finds a profound connection to these events.

In a March 19 interview at the premiere of Season 5 in Dallas, Roumie explained that portraying these sacred scenes feels like “living out liturgy.”

He shared how he draws upon his own experience of the liturgy to ensure authenticity in these powerful moments.

“It’s going to be stunningly beautiful for people to see,” Roumie said.

“We sort of present it in a very unique way, but in a way that is super powerful.”

He added that there were moments during filming where the cast found themselves moved to tears, making the experience even more emotionally charged.

Season 5’s Timely Release During Lent

The timing of the season’s release couldn’t be more fitting, coinciding with Lent and the lead-up to Easter.

Roumie expressed hope that the season would offer viewers a “more vibrant and saturated experience of Holy Week.”

He wants audiences to “see and feel” the powerful events of this sacred time in a fresh, impactful way.

With the season’s release, fans can look forward to a deeper understanding of these significant biblical moments as The Chosen continues to captivate viewers with its unique storytelling and emotional depth.
