Texas State University student sparks outrage by reenacting Charlie Kirk assassination during memorial on San Marcos campus

A shocking incident at Texas State University has left the campus and social media in uproar after a student was filmed reenacting the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a memorial held in his honor.

The disturbing footage shows the unidentified student mocking Kirk’s death and spitting near attendees, drawing widespread condemnation.

Governor Abbott Demands Immediate Action

Texas Governor Gregg Abbott quickly weighed in, calling for the university to expel the student immediately.

“Mocking assassination must have consequences,” Abbott said, posting video of the incident on his X account.

He emphasized that such behavior “is not accepted at our schools,” urging Texas State University to take swift disciplinary action.

Disturbing Behavior at the Memorial

The incident appeared targeted at members of Kirk’s nonprofit organization, Turning Point USA (TPUSA), who were hosting the memorial.

Eyewitness footage shows the student confronting TPUSA members, cursing, slapping his own neck, and mimicking recoiling from a gunshot.

At one point, the student climbed a statue and repeated the action before dropping to the ground.

He then allegedly used a racial slur while walking away from the shocked crowd.

University Responds to the Incident

Texas State President Dr. Kelly Damphousse described the episode as “disturbing” and confirmed that officials are taking immediate steps to identify the individual involved.

“Behavior that trivializes or promotes violence is reprehensible and violates the values of TXST. It will not be tolerated,” Damphousse said in a statement.

He added that appropriate action will be taken if the student is confirmed to be affiliated with the university.

Similar Incident at Texas Tech University

This is not an isolated case. A student at Texas Tech University, nearly 400 miles away, was filmed mocking Kirk’s assassination during a vigil last Friday.

Eighteen-year-old Camryn Giselle Booker was seen jumping, chanting, and confronting a fellow student holding a “Rest in peace Charlie Kirk” sign.

Booker was arrested for simple assault after police intervened and has since been removed from Texas Tech University, a decision Governor Abbott praised.

Nationwide Vigils Amid Counter-Protests

In the days following Kirk’s assassination, candlelight vigils and memorials have appeared across the country.

While most attendees have paid tribute to the late activist, counter-protesters have appeared at some events, even praising Kirk’s death online.

Details of Kirk’s Assassination

Charlie Kirk was fatally shot on September 10 while speaking with students at Utah Valley University.

Tyler Robinson, 22, has been charged with murder and could face the death penalty if convicted.

Prosecutors have also charged him with felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury and obstruction of justice.

Authorities say Robinson confessed in a text message and left a note claiming he intended to kill one of the nation’s leading conservative voices.

While he has not been cooperating with investigators, Robinson’s family and friends have spoken to authorities, revealing a shift in his political views and time spent in “dark corners of the internet.”

FBI Director Kash Patel noted that Robinson told investigators, “Some hatred cannot be negotiated with,” when asked why he targeted Kirk.
