Taylor Swift Cancels Vienna Concerts After Alleged Terror Plot Targets Her Shows at Ernst-Happel-Stadion

Taylor Swift has canceled her upcoming concerts in Vienna following an alleged terror threat.

This decision comes five years after she shared her fears about security at her shows.

The singer, who is 34, had to cancel three performances that were part of her popular Eras Tour. This move followed the arrest of two suspects who were reportedly plotting an attack.

Back in 2019, after her Reputation tour, Swift wrote about her anxieties regarding concert security.

She mentioned her fear of an attack at one of her concerts, especially after incidents like the Manchester Arena bombing and the Las Vegas shooting. In her Elle essay, Swift expressed concern about how to keep millions of fans safe during her tours, noting the extensive planning and resources required.

The cancellation of the Vienna concerts came after authorities arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged threat. The main suspect, a 19-year-old, was apprehended in Ternitz, while another person was arrested in Vienna.

The suspects were reportedly radicalized online and had targeted Swift’s concert.

The police discovered chemical substances at one of the suspects’ homes, which are now being analyzed to determine if they could be used to make a bomb.

Response and Safety Measures

The popstar was scheduled to perform at Vienna’s Ernst-Happel-Stadion on August 8, 9, and 10. Security measures were planned to be heightened, but the cancellation was announced following the arrests.

The suspects had pledged allegiance to ISIS, and law enforcement received information about the threat from U.S. intelligence, which was then shared with Austrian authorities and Europol.

Official Statement

Barracuda Music, Swift’s concert promoter, confirmed the cancellation, stating it was due to the government’s confirmation of a planned terrorist attack.

They assured fans that all tickets would be refunded within the next 10 business days.

Tour Impact and Future Plans

Swift’s Eras Tour, which will conclude in Vancouver on December 8, 2024, is set to surpass $2 billion in earnings.

Despite a record-breaking ticket sales day marred by a Ticketmaster system crash, the tour continues to be a massive financial success. Swift’s concert film has also performed exceptionally well, grossing over $180 million domestically.

Looking ahead, Swift is already working on new music, with a possible release in 2025, and talks of hitting the road again in 2026.
