Taco Bell launches Baja Blast Pie dessert surprising Thanksgiving diners across the United States

Thanksgiving just got a very unexpected upgrade — and yes, it involves Taco Bell.

While most families are busy peeling pumpkins and stirring pies, the fast-food giant decided to take a bold detour from tradition this year.

Instead of the usual pumpkin pie, Taco Bell has reinvented its iconic citrus soda, Baja Blast, into a dessert pie that is turning heads — and not always in a good way.


Baja Blast Pie Makes Its Bold Debut

The festive creation, called the Baja Blast Pie, launched on November 6 and has been described by Taco Bell as “unexpected in every way.”

The chain pitched it as a creamy, key lime-style pie with the tropical flavors of Baja Blast soda — a dessert designed to stand out amid turkey and stuffing.

Taco Bell called it more than a simple dessert: a “Friendsgiving flex” that lets diners become the hero of their holiday gatherings.


Mixed Reactions from Fans Online

But not everyone is thrilled. Social media quickly lit up with reactions ranging from curiosity to horror.

Many fans were taken aback by the neon-blue color of the pie filling, while others criticized its frozen texture.

TikTok creator Kayleigh Leon shared a review saying, “Taco Bell, I promise no-one is buying more than one… if that.”

She added, “This thing looks radioactive,” and rated it a 2 out of 10. “Just because it’s edible doesn’t mean you should eat it,” she concluded.

On X, some customers called it “weirdly gummy” and asked, “Why did Taco Bell make a Baja Blast pie? Who asked for this?”

Of course, not all reactions were negative.

Patrick Simpson said he was pleasantly surprised, noting, “It tastes like key lime pie with a hint of Mountain Dew. Shockingly it was pretty solid.”


Taco Bell’s Big Plans for 2025 Menu Items

The Baja Blast Pie is just one example of Taco Bell’s adventurous approach this year.

Back in March, CMO Taylor Montgomery unveiled a slew of new offerings, promising more than 10 new menu items by the end of 2025 during the chain’s Live Mas LIVE event.

Fans were teased with twists on their favorite drink, like Mountain Dew Baja Midnight, and a spicy addition called Mike’s Hot Honey Diablo Sauce, aimed to complement the returning Chicken Nuggets.


Exciting New Menu and Tech Features

Montgomery also highlighted menu successes from earlier in the year, including Luxe Cravings Boxes and the Caliente Cantina Chicken Menu, while the audience eagerly anticipated the Flamin’ Hot Burrito and Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupa.

Beverage enthusiasts got a treat too, with the announcement of Live Mas Cafe in Chula Vista, California, offering a 30-drink menu including the Dirty Baja Blast.

On the tech side, Taco Bell plans to launch Fan Style, a new app feature that allows customers to fully customize, save, and name their own menu creations — putting more power in the hands of Taco Bell fans than ever before.


A Bold Move That Sparks Conversation

Whether diners love it or hate it, the Baja Blast Pie is doing exactly what Taco Bell intended: getting people talking.

This year, the chain isn’t just offering food — it’s creating a bold, colorful, and controversial conversation starter for the Thanksgiving table.
