When you think of Hollywood stars, you often imagine flawless, picture-perfect images — but Sydney Sweeney just kept it real and revealed a side of herself many might not expect.
The 27-year-old Euphoria actress recently shared her actual jeans size, and it might surprise some fans given her statuesque frame.
The Size Reveal That Caught Everyone Off Guard
In a chat with W magazine’s summer issue, Sydney casually dropped that she typically wears a size 23 in jeans.
To put that in perspective, size 23 usually fits a waist around 23 inches, which is smaller than the size Kim Kardashian reportedly wears.
This size is often equivalent to a US size 00 or 000.
It was during this conversation that Sydney dove into the incredible physical transformation she underwent for her upcoming role as super boxer Christy Martin.
Packing on Pounds to Play a Fighter
Sydney didn’t just lose weight for this role — she put on a whopping 30 pounds to convincingly portray the boxing legend.
She explained how the weight gain dramatically changed her body, especially in the chest and hip areas. “My boobs got bigger.
And my butt got huge,” she told the Wall Street Journal’s summer special issue.
“It was crazy! But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong.”
Grueling Training Regimen Before Filming
To prepare, Sydney trained intensely for three and a half months before filming began.
Her daily routine involved four hours of training split between weightlifting and kickboxing.
She described mornings of weight training, followed by two hours of kickboxing midday, and finishing off with more weight training at night.
The result? A body completely unlike her usual self.
“I didn’t fit in any of my clothes,” she said. “I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27.”
From Blonde Bombshell to Fierce Boxer
Known for her blonde hair and hourglass figure, Sydney took on a very different look to play Christy Martin.
On set, she sported a brunette curly wig, a blue bandana, and loose-fitting clothes to fully embody the boxing icon’s 1990s style.
Photos from the production show her bundled up in a brown shirt, blue hoodie, and joggers, with minimal makeup to further channel Martin’s authentic appearance.
The Story Behind the Legend: Christy Martin’s Impact and Struggles
Christy Martin, nicknamed “The Coal Miner’s Daughter” because of her father’s occupation, revolutionized women’s boxing in the 1990s.
She famously faced Deirdre Gogarty in front of a sold-out crowd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in 1996, which helped put the sport on the map.
Though her boxing career was celebrated — with magazine covers, talk show appearances, and sitcom cameos — her personal life was marked by hardship.
Martin endured two decades of abuse from her husband and trainer, James “Jim” Martin.
Surviving Abuse and Moving Forward
In a horrifying incident in 2010, Jim stabbed and shot Christy multiple times, leaving her for dead after a violent home altercation.
She survived the attack, and two years later, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for attempted murder and manslaughter.
Since then, Christy has moved on, working as a promoter and marrying former boxer Lisa Holewyne in 2017 after coming out publicly.
Christy Martin’s Support for Sydney Sweeney’s Role
Earlier this year, Martin praised Sydney for taking on her story, calling the actress “young, hot, talented” and expressing excitement about how the film could raise awareness.
She told TMZ she looked forward to helping Sydney train and emphasized how important the film is, not just as a boxing biopic but as a message about domestic violence and the struggles of sexuality.
Martin hopes this movie will inspire many and says, “I want this movie to bring awareness to domestic violence, the challenge of sexuality and overall underdog story.”
A Story of Strength Beyond the Ring
From small-town roots in southern West Virginia to becoming a trailblazer for women’s boxing, Christy Martin’s life is about far more than sports.
Sydney Sweeney’s physical transformation and dedication to portraying her story reflect that strength and resilience — a story soon to be told on the big screen.
