Sundowns co-coaches have proven their doubters wrong

The former Bafana Bafana midfielder says that he had his reservations about the appointment of three co-coaches.

However, Mahlangu says that he was wrong to doubt the wisdom of the Sundowns’ brains trust.

The trio have now backed up the hat-trick of titles won under Pitso Mosimane with a pair of PSL titles to make it five in a row for the Brazilians.

“I was one of the critics on having three coaches even though I kept my opinion to myself,” Mahlangu told KickOff.

“But they’ve proved me wrong that it can also work, and it has worked wonderfully.

“We are complimenting them for bringing something unique, and it has worked.”

Mahlangu believes that sealing the league title early will allow Sundowns to devote more attention to success in the cup.

“In Sundowns’ situation it’s different because they have a lot of players that were not playing,” Mahlangu continues.

“I predict they will give all those players a run so that they can gauge what they each bring.

“As a player, you can grab that opportunity to show that you can still play, to show you were not a fluke.

“Also, Sundowns are a team that likes to make history, so they will be trying to beat their previous record.”

Sundowns’ next assignment is their Nedbank Cup semi-final against Royal AM on Saturday.

Having won the MTN 8, Sundowns remain on course to claim a domestic treble but have been eliminated from the Caf Champions League.
