Sunbed causes fight among tourist at a hotel in Tenirife

Early in the morning, crowds of tourists fought over sunbeds at a hotel in Tenerife.

Video shows throngs of anxious visitors lining up beside their resort’s pools and rushing down to claim the prime places as soon as possible.

Armed with swimming trunks and sunscreen, British tourists sprinted past other vacationers in a sad effort to claim a spot in the sun for the day.

Some reportedly stood in line for 90 minutes at the crack of dawn, waiting for some unidentified signal before charging through rival holidaymakers in search of the prized sun loungers.

In Spanish resorts, it is customary to assume that a towel left on a sunbed belongs to its owner for the duration of the day. Although the origin of this rule is unknown, it is often believed to have originated in Germany.

Although not all hotels have this policy, when it does, it may lead to tense rivalry amongst tourists eager to have a better time than their neighbours.

An observer at the four-star Spring Hotel Bitacora in Playa de las Américas captured the storming of the poolside and uploaded it to TikTok.

According to The Sun, Chloe Turner’s initial video’s caption read, “So I’m in Tenerife and everyone’s scrambling to get their sunbed place.”

In her second, she said, “Another day, another sunbed conflict,” as competing groups pushed forward from all sides to take their position.

As visitors return to sun-soaked places amid record-breaking temperatures, the battle for sunbeds has been a regular sight throughout Europe this summer.

As temperatures climbed throughout the globe, Spain saw its warmest July in 60 years while France is now experiencing its fourth heatwave of the year.

Spain, which has been plagued by raging flames amid the summer, has seen temperatures as high as 37C at 7am.
