Stuart Baxter sends out a Kaizer Chiefs promise to Mamelodi Sundowns

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has sent out a strong promise to Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of the last stretch of the DStv Premiership season.

Sundowns are currently runaway leaders with a 16 point lead ahead of Chiefs in third, who have potentially two games in hand.

Sundowns still in the driving seat

Even after a shock defeat and slip up at the hands of Maritzburg United on Saturday evening, Sundowns still have a commanding lead on the rest of the “chasing pack” and largely expected to not be troubled by any of the teams behind them, including Chiefs. But one thing that has been evident through Baxter is the never give up attitude. The veteran British mentor stop short of giving up on winning the league in a pre-derby press conference on Thursday.

Chiefs win over Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium seems to have given Baxter even more confidence in his stance. Speaking to the media after the game,  he again came out swinging when it came to Amakhosi’s title prospects.

Baxter saying Chiefs will keep the pressure up

“I run the risk of being branded a complete fool and buffoon by saying it but what I said before the game (against Orlando Pirates) was that we don’t know where the two games are going as yet, However, what we have to do is bring pressure to them. If we can beat Pirates which we have (done) and if we are given those two games to play it is a potential six points and then we have to play Sundowns one more time. If we can beat them in that game and keep breathing down their necks maybe they will drop a few points.”. Said Baxter about Chiefs’ prospects.

Baxter also mention the possible distractions Sundowns could face and how Chiefs could then capitalise.

Will the Brazilians get distracted?

They are engaged on more than one front so they know that it is their league to lose, and we will be fools to say we are going to (win the league). What I can say we are going to do is breathe down their necks as long as we can and as hard as we can so that when we actually play them it means something. “It could also be that we don’t get (the two pending games) to play, and we lose the next game and Sundowns wins and then people say it is all over. That is a possibility too. For now, every win we get prolongs that possibility that we could be breathing down their necks and we will do anything we can to do that,” Said Baxter.

Who do you think will secure second Chiefs, Pirates or another side.
