Shirley Ballas gave fans a health update on Instagram after a terrifying accident earlier this week.
The 65-year-old Strictly Come Dancing head judge revealed that she fell backwards and hit her head on a glass dressing table, prompting a hospital visit for a precautionary brain scan.
In her latest video, Shirley shared that while she feels shaken, she considers herself very lucky.
“I’m lucky the way I hit my head,” she said, adding that the fall caused injuries to her spine, neck, lower back, and ankle.
She also emphasized the importance of rest in her recovery over the next three days.
The Recovery Journey
On her way to a physiotherapy appointment, Shirley explained: “Everything hurts—my spine, neck, lower back, ankle—so I’m having my physio check everything.
Then I’ll go home and have a forced day of rest, which is unusual for me!”
She expressed gratitude for the support she’s received from nurses, doctors, and friends who helped her through the ordeal.
Shirley also humorously warned followers: “Never sit on a stool with a cushion.
I slipped off it and that’s how it all happened.”
After seeing her osteopath John Harris, she added that the adjustments he made were helpful.
She reassured fans that with proper rest, she should feel “as right as rain” in about 72 hours.
A Close Call After a Lingerie Shoot
The fall came just hours after Shirley had shared a glamorous lingerie snap on social media.
She wrote: “Thank you to everyone who checked in on me.
It was a scary fall backwards, hitting my head on a glass dressing table.
A trip to the hospital for a brain scan—fortunately, no cracked skull.
I’ll rest a few days to heal my neck and back.”
She also thanked her friends Barbara McColl and Sammy Stopford for arranging her emergency appointment and accompanying her through the hospital visit.
Shirley’s Love Life: Back on the Dating Scene
After dedicating time to care for her 88-year-old mother Audrey and stepping away from romance following her split from Danny Taylor last year, Shirley recently revealed she’s open to dating again.
“I may have had a date or two,” she admitted, adding that she’s focused on finding someone with intellect and humor.
“Nothing serious. No labels, no tags. I know my truth and my authentic self, so if I want to go on a date, I will.”
Balancing Work, Life, and Love
While Shirley is preparing for the Strictly Come Dancing live arena tour—which will see her and the cast perform in front of over 10,000 fans across 30 shows—she’s also juggling her role as a judge, teacher, and full-time daughter.
“I love meeting the crowds and giving them the best experience.
If it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t have the show we do,” she said.
Despite her busy schedule, she still finds time for romance, carefully considering her suitors and prioritizing people she already knows and trusts.
What Shirley Looks for in a Partner
Shirley has a clear idea of what she wants: someone humorous, intelligent, generous, and well-presented.
“I’ve always been someone who pays for everyone, so it’s lovely when a partner insists on treating me,” she explained.
Her lifestyle also reflects her disciplined nature.
She juices throughout the day, enjoys hotpod yoga daily, and sticks to a mostly plant-based diet—though she admits to the occasional indulgence.
“These are my rules for me, not for anyone else,” she said with a smile.
Looking Ahead
As Shirley recovers from her fall, she remains positive and grateful for the support around her.
Between her recovery, Strictly commitments, and potential dates, it seems Shirley is finding a balance between self-care, career, and the possibility of love.
