Steven Muller strengthens Paarl Boys High rugby squad after transferring from Grey College due to family relocation to the Western Cape

In a move that’s already making waves in South African schoolboy rugby circles, rising star Steven Muller has officially swapped schools — and jerseys.

The powerhouse loose forward, who’s been a standout at Grey College, has now joined Paarl Boys’ High after his family relocated to the Western Cape for his father’s work.

Leadership, Experience, and Talent on the Move

Muller’s credentials are impressive: he’s been a consistent leader at Grey, captaining their U14A, U15A, and U16A sides.

Most recently, he earned several caps for the school’s prestigious First XV and was widely tipped to captain the team in 2026.

His sudden departure, however, leaves a gap not only in the school squad but also in the Free State’s U18 Academy Week team.

With youth provincial week just around the corner, selectors now face the task of finding a worthy replacement.

Paarl Boys’ Gain in a Pivotal Season

Muller’s move could not come at a better time for Paarl Boys’ High.

They’re deep into what’s shaping up to be a strong 2025 campaign, and the addition of Muller is set to add real muscle and leadership to their already dominant forward pack.

Both Paarl Boys and Grey College are having standout seasons, sitting comfortably within the Top 5 of the unofficial schoolboy rugby rankings.

With Muller now in their lineup, Paarl Boys will be looking to close the season on a high.

Two Schools with Proud Springbok Legacies

When it comes to producing elite talent, these two schools are giants.

Grey College sits second on the all-time list of Springbok-producing schools with 48 players who’ve gone on to wear the green and gold.

Paarl Boys’ High isn’t far behind, boasting 26 former pupils who’ve earned Bok honors — ranking sixth.

It’s no wonder the rugby world is watching this move with keen interest.
