When ITV announced the return of the fan-favourite game show You Bet!, audiences were eager to see what the reboot would bring.
With Stephen Mulhern as host, the revamped version promises high energy, celebrity guests, and jaw-dropping challenges from everyday people across the UK.
But it turns out what goes on behind the scenes might be just as fascinating as what viewers will eventually see on their screens.
Stephen Mulhern’s Warm Approach Wins Over the Audience
One lucky audience member who got a ticket to the live filming shared some fun behind-the-scenes insight—and they couldn’t speak more highly of Stephen Mulhern.
The 48-year-old presenter reportedly went out of his way to greet every single person in the audience, making time for selfies, quick chats, and plenty of laughs.
“He was lovely,” the fan said. “He genuinely seemed to care about everyone there, even with the busy filming schedule.”
A Bit of TV Magic Happening Behind the Scenes
While the atmosphere was full of excitement, there were a few surprises for those new to how television production works.
One thing that stood out? The added drama.
The audience member revealed that multiple reactions were filmed—cheers, boos, gasps—even when nothing was happening.
These extra shots are likely used in the final edit to boost the drama, but for newcomers, it felt a little… well, staged.
“It caught me off guard,” the fan admitted. “At one point, Stephen and the guests were clapping for no reason, and we were all a bit confused.
But then it clicked—it’s for the edit!”
Despite the “Fakeness,” the Audience Had a Great Time
Even though some parts of the filming felt a bit artificial, the audience member said they still thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Watching how things are stitched together behind the scenes gave them a new appreciation for what goes into making TV.
They’re now excited to see the finished episode on air—especially to spot how the spontaneous reactions are edited into the final product.
A Six-Episode Run and a Festive Special in Cambridgeshire
The new series of You Bet! will feature six full-length episodes, plus a special Christmas edition that’s set to be filmed in Cambridgeshire.
In true You Bet! fashion, the show features ordinary people performing wild, unpredictable challenges in front of live audiences in different locations around the UK.
Stephen Mulhern Promises Fun, Chaos, and Celeb Guests
Stephen Mulhern has shared his excitement about being part of the reboot, saying: “I’m absolutely thrilled that You Bet! is back—and this time we’re hitting the road!”
Each week, Stephen will be joined by a rotating celebrity panel while participants take on what he describes as “brilliantly bonkers” tasks.
And with the You Bet Champion title on the line, he promises every episode will be “unbelievable from the start.”
Filming Was Briefly Halted After a Car Fire Broke Out on Set
While things have mostly gone smoothly, production hit a snag last month when a car unexpectedly burst into flames on set.
Stephen and the crew were filming a special Emmerdale-themed segment near Leeds when the fire broke out, spreading quickly to some of the show’s prop vans.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as “carnage,” with fire crews rushing in to contain the blaze.
Thankfully, no one was hurt, and the fire was deemed accidental.
Production Was Suspended Temporarily—but No One Was Harmed
ITV confirmed that filming was halted as a safety precaution, and fire services were quick to handle the situation.
A spokesperson for You Bet! assured fans that everyone on set was safe, saying:
“Following an incident that was unrelated to filming, production for You Bet! was suspended as a precaution.
The health and safety of everyone involved remains our top priority.”
West Yorkshire Fire Service added that two fire crews from Moortown and Wetherby tackled the flames and successfully put out the blaze. No injuries were reported.
Star-Studded Lineup Set to Join the Revived Series
The new version of You Bet! is also turning heads thanks to its all-star guest list.
Viewers can expect appearances from familiar faces like Zoe Ball, Rob Beckett, Alex Brooker, Rylan Clark, Alesha Dixon, Alison Hammond, and McFly’s Danny Jones.
And this time, there’s no traditional studio setting—the entire series is being filmed on location across the UK, bringing the action closer to the fans.
A Nostalgic Throwback with a Modern Makeover
For fans who remember the original You Bet!, which aired from 1988 to 1997 with hosts like Bruce Forsyth, Matthew Kelly, and Darren Day, this new version is a nostalgic treat with a 2025 twist.
Between the heart-pounding challenges, celebrity appearances, and Mulhern’s signature charm, ITV is betting big on the show’s comeback.
And from what we’ve seen so far, they just might have a winner on their hands.
