After a stunning defeat at Ellis Park, the Springboks are now forced to rethink their plans for the upcoming Tests against the Wallabies.
Coach Rassie Erasmus had already mapped out the lineup for the first two games, but the loss has thrown a wrench into those plans.
“We had already picked next week’s team, but that will probably change a little bit now,” Erasmus admitted.
“We wanted to get Ethan Hooker in, give Canan [Moodie] a start, and start Krappie [Morne van den Berg]. Now, we’ll have to rethink it.”
The revised Springbok squad is set to be announced on Tuesday at 15:00.
Springboks Ready to Hit the Ground Running in Cape Town
The team arrived in Cape Town from Johannesburg on Sunday, and on Monday, they’ll kick off their on-field preparations.
After the Ellis Park disappointment, the squad is eager to regain momentum and prove themselves.
“We’ve always said that if we don’t play well and lose momentum – which we did – we might need to change our approach when it comes to selection,” Erasmus explained.
“We had a chat in the change room, and changes may now happen.”
