Tottenham Hotspur look set to boost their defensive options with the imminent signing of 19-year-old left wing-back Souza from Santos.
The promising Brazilian has been a standout for the Serie A side, sharing the pitch with Neymar in 38 appearances, and Spurs are reportedly finalizing a £13million deal to bring him to north London.
Souza Bids Emotional Farewell to Santos
Before leaving Brazil, Souza took to Instagram to say goodbye to the club that has shaped his career.
He wrote: “After 10 years of defending this shield, the time has come for a new challenge.
The last year was intense, full of growth and overcoming obstacles, but even in tough moments, I felt the love and support of the Santos fans.
That will never be forgotten. I leave with my head held high, grateful for everything I’ve experienced and proud that this story was built on truth.
Thanks for everything—Santos is a pride that not everyone gets to feel!”
His heartfelt message highlights both his gratitude and readiness to take the next step in his career.
Tottenham Struggling for Left-Back Cover
The move comes at a crucial time for Spurs, who have been stretched in the left-back department.
Destiny Udogie only returned to the bench on Saturday after missing weeks with a hamstring injury.
Meanwhile, Djed Spence, a natural right-footer, has been filling in, and veteran Ben Davies started in Tottenham’s recent 2-1 home defeat to West Ham.
Unfortunately, Davies suffered what appeared to be a serious leg injury during that match, forcing him off the pitch on a stretcher.
Second January Signing for Spurs
If completed, Souza would become Tottenham’s second January signing, following the high-profile £35million acquisition of Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid.
With left-back options currently thin, the young Brazilian’s arrival could not come at a better time for the Spurs squad as they prepare for the second half of the season.
