South African Weather Service warns Gauteng residents to brace for a sharp drop in temperatures starting Friday as cold front moves in

If you were thinking about hitting the park, having a braai, or just catching some rays this weekend in Gauteng—think again.

A serious cold front is about to sweep through the province, and it’s going to get chilly fast.

Time to dig out those winter layers!

Big Chill Starts Friday Across Gauteng

According to a heads-up from Gauteng Weather and confirmed by the South African Weather Service, temperatures in the region are set to drop sharply starting Friday.

Whether you’re in Johannesburg or Pretoria, it’s going to feel a whole lot more like winter than autumn.

  • In Pretoria, expect temperatures to dip as low as 7°C, with a high of only 19°C on Friday.

  • In Johannesburg, it’s even colder—4°C in the morning, topping out at just 17°C.

  • The weekend won’t be much better, either. Forecasts show maximum temps hovering between 14°C and 18°C across the board.

Coastal Areas Get a Wild Ride with Wind and Waves

If you were thinking of heading to the coast instead—maybe for a last warm getaway—you might want to rethink that plan too.

The SA Weather Service has also issued warnings for strong winds and rough seas along the coast between Plettenberg Bay and Port Edward.

There’s talk of damaging waves, small boats at risk of capsizing, and navigation becoming tricky.

Oh, and scattered thunderstorms in the south and east of the country, just to keep things interesting.

A Bit of a Breather Coming Next Week

Here’s the silver lining: the forecast suggests that Gauteng will start warming up again by Tuesday.

So, if you can brave the next few days with some hot coffee, thick socks, and a warm blanket, better days are just around the corner.

What Are Your Weekend Plans?

With weather like this, many people are probably cancelling outdoor adventures and planning cozy indoor movie marathons instead.

Are you sticking it out with some fresh air or going full Netflix-and-blanket mode?
