Imagine missing calls for days and thinking they’re just pesky telemarketers — only to find out you’re actually the winner of a massive lottery jackpot.

That’s exactly what happened to a lucky South African who recently won over R124 million in the PowerBall.

The Unexpected Jackpot Winner Comes Forward

The winner, who prefers to stay anonymous, finally answered her bank’s calls after a few days of ignoring them.

She thought it was just another sales pitch.

The ticket, bought for just R37.50 through the Absa Banking App, held the winning numbers from the 5 August 2025 draw: 10, 32, 34, 40, 48, with the Bonus Ball 14.

It wasn’t until she arrived at the ITHUBA office in Johannesburg that she learned she had hit the jackpot.

“I’m still in shock,” she admitted. “My dream of owning a car will finally come true.”

A Prize That Could Change Everything

The winner shared how much the prize means for her family.

With her husband unemployed for years, they had been living on just one income — a struggle she described as “hand-to-mouth.”

“This win will change everything for us,” she said emotionally. “I wish my parents were still alive to see this.

I plan to rebuild and restore their house as our family home.”

ITHUBA Celebrates Another Life Transformed

Charmaine Mabuza, CEO of ITHUBA, expressed joy over the winner coming forward.

She praised the National Lottery for helping everyday South Africans dream bigger and change their lives.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate this moment and look forward to many more,” Mabuza said.

What Winners Need to Know

Did you know that anyone winning R50,000 or more gets free access to trauma counseling and financial advice? Plus, lottery winnings are paid tax-free directly into winners’ bank accounts.

Just remember, you need to be 18 or older to play.

Looking Ahead to the Next Big Draw

The next PowerBall and PowerBall Plus draws are scheduled for Tuesday, 12 August at 20:58.

The jackpots stand at R10 million for PowerBall and R37 million for PowerBall Plus.
