After three impactful years covering football at Sky Sports, South African journalist Melissa Reddy has announced she’s moving on from the broadcaster to focus on other passions, including writing books.
Known for her sharp and insightful coverage of the Premier League — especially around Manchester United and Liverpool — Melissa’s departure comes amid a string of staff changes at Sky, following the recent cancellation of The Football Show.
A Wave of Changes at Sky Sports
Melissa isn’t the only familiar face leaving Sky this week.
Veteran presenter Rob Wotton is also stepping down, alongside presenters Teddy Draper and Jasper Taylor.
Long-serving reporter Jeremy Langdon, senior reporter Fadumo Okow, and a news editor are part of the latest round of exits as well. It’s clearly a period of transition for the UK sports broadcaster.
Looking Forward to New Adventures
Sharing the news on Instagram, Melissa reflected on her time at Sky and hinted at exciting things to come.
“Eleventh season of Premier League coverage done and I’ve called time on three years at Sky,” she wrote. “I’ll still be doing bits and bobs for them.
But I’m genuinely sooo excited to share all the things I’ll be working on soon… YES – that will include new books.”
Melissa has built a strong reputation for breaking stories and delivering bold journalism.
Now, she’s keen to focus more on her “strengths and passions,” with writing clearly high on that list.
Overcoming Challenges in a Tough Industry
Melissa also used her statement to shed light on some of the racism and sexism she’s faced throughout her career.
She recalled an early incident after covering her first press conference in England, when a journalist questioned why people like her were allowed to “take our jobs,” implying it was just a fleeting chance.
Despite those moments of prejudice, Melissa’s response is one of strength and resilience.
“I will always be stronger than the hate; I know who I am, I know the substance of my work… You can’t dim the light of someone who learned how to shine in the dark,” she affirmed.
Support from Industry Peers
Her powerful message has clearly struck a chord, with colleagues from across the sports world offering their support.
Formula One presenter Natalie Pike thanked her for “always shining a light for the women in our industry.”
Football commentator Pien Meulensteen and presenter Reshmin Chowdhury also voiced their admiration and encouragement.
What’s Next for Melissa Reddy?
Melissa Reddy’s departure is a notable moment for Sky Sports, given her status as one of the most prominent female sports journalists of colour in the UK. But this isn’t a farewell — it’s a fresh start.
Fans and followers are eagerly anticipating what she’ll create next, especially with her upcoming books and creative projects on the horizon.
