Sofia Vergara shares awkward hug with Canelo Alvarez at Las Vegas undisputed title fight as fans react on social media

This past weekend, boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez faced Terence Crawford in a highly anticipated undisputed title fight in Las Vegas.

While the action in the ring dominated headlines, the event also had its share of celebrity drama—most notably an awkward moment involving actress Sofia Vergara.

A Star-Studded Fight Night

Fans of both boxing and Hollywood were treated to a star-studded crowd at Allegiant Stadium.

Sofia Vergara, known for Modern Family, America’s Got Talent, and Despicable Me 4, popped backstage to meet Canelo.

As the Mexican fighter stepped forward from a white sofa draped with a Mexican flag, he embraced the 53-year-old actress, creating a slightly tense moment.

Canelo, 35, appeared to step to the side and nervously wrap his arms around Vergara.

Observers quickly noticed that his wife, Fernanda Gomez, was standing nearby, ready to intervene.

An Awkward Photo Opportunity

Netflix shared footage of the hug on their official X page, which cut quickly to a photo featuring the four of them.

Interestingly, Vergara and Canelo were not standing next to each other.

Gomez stepped in between them to ensure the couple was not side by side for the photo.

In the picture, Canelo stood on the right, his arm around one of his children.

Gomez occupied the middle, while Vergara posed on the left.

The couple has been together since 2016 and married in 2021.

Fans on social media were quick to react. One tweeted, “Canelo wife was NOT PLAYING,” while another added, “Lmaoo his wife made sure to stand between them.”

Canelo Alvarez’s Family Life

Canelo has five children with five different women. Emily Cinnamon Alvarez, his oldest, is with childhood sweetheart Karen Beltran.

His second daughter, Mia Ener Alvarez, is with model Valeria Quiroz.

His only son, Saul Adiel Alvarez, is with Nadia Sepulveda. He also shares two daughters, Maria Fernanda Alvarez and Eve Victoria, with Gomez.

Reflecting on his children watching him fight, Canelo told The Sun: “They get a little bit nervous, but they like it.

They scream, they support me with all they have. Maria is the most nervous because she says she doesn’t want someone to hurt me.

I tell her, ‘Don’t worry, that’s why I train and prepare so that doesn’t happen.’”

Canelo’s Battle in the Ring

The fight itself saw Canelo putting up a strong fight in the early rounds, landing chopping shots and combinations.

But Crawford’s precise counters gradually dominated the match.

By the championship rounds, Crawford’s victory by unanimous decision—two 115-113 scorecards—was clear.

Despite the loss, Canelo praised Crawford highly, telling reporters, “I think he’s way better than Floyd Mayweather.”

His sportsmanship and respect for Crawford have only amplified calls for Crawford to be recognized as boxing’s pound-for-pound No. 1.

Cementing His Legacy

Canelo’s performance, both in the ring and with his gracious acknowledgment of his opponent, underscores his place among boxing’s elite.

As the first man to become undisputed in three divisions, he has already secured his place among the sport’s all-time greats.
