Sizwe Dhlomo Criticizes Dricus du Plessis and Gayton McKenzie Over UFC Loss and Social Media Controversy in South Africa

South African media personality Sizwe Dhlomo didn’t hold back after Dricus du Plessis lost his UFC Middleweight World Champion belt to Khamzat Chimaev.

The Kaya FM host also took aim at Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture Gayton McKenzie following the minister’s controversial social media activity this week.

Mocking Words for McKenzie and Du Plessis

Gayton McKenzie had posted a supportive message for Du Plessis on X (formerly Twitter), saying:

“Dricus du Plessis, you made us proud as one of the great champions, and we know you will be back.

You faced a tough wrestler today, but you will come back stronger.

It was hard to watch, but you never gave up, almost had him & you’ll always be a legend. Chin up, #noDNAjustRSA”

Dhlomo’s response was far less diplomatic. He replied bluntly:

“Hey f*kof, wena!”

His post quickly drew attention, signaling his continued disdain for both the minister and the fighter.

Public Reaction to Du Plessis’ Loss

Dhlomo wasn’t the only South African expressing opinions about Du Plessis’ defeat.

Comedian Yaaseen Barnes also weighed in, referencing the MMA fighter’s past controversial statements and support for former US President Donald Trump.

“Dricus’ loss actually made me more Pro-South African.

He stood for the white genocide (which has been debunked), he’s also pro-Trump (who should be debunked). This is a loss for the good of the country.”

Similarly, EFF member Sinawo Thambo shared his perspective:

“There is no patriotism with peddlers of fake genocide in SA and racists.”

Dividing Opinions

The reactions illustrate how Du Plessis’ actions and beliefs outside the octagon have influenced public perception.

While some focus on his athletic achievements, others highlight the controversies surrounding his statements and political endorsements.
