Six Men Arrested After Gunshot Leaves Young Man Injured in Manchester’s Gay Village During Early Morning Incident

Manchester’s Gay Village was rocked early this morning when a shooting left one man injured and sparked a major police response.

The incident unfolded at around 5am in a property on Richmond Street, near the bustling Canal Street.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of gunfire, discovering a man in his 20s suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.

Thankfully, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Armed Response and Arrests

Armed officers quickly descended on the area, recovering a firearm inside the property.

Investigators described the shooting as “targeted,” suggesting the victim was deliberately attacked rather than it being a random act.

Six men, aged between 23 and 26, have been arrested on suspicion of affray and firearms offences.

All remain in police custody as detectives continue questioning them.

Crime Scene Investigation Underway

Richmond Street has been cordoned off while forensic teams carry out detailed examinations.

Officers have been seen entering and leaving a local apartment block as part of the investigation.

A Mercedes G-Class, commonly known as a G-Wagon, was also spotted within the cordoned area, though police have not confirmed its connection to the incident.

Police Statement and Reassurance

Superintendent Stephen Wiggins, from GMP’s city division, acknowledged the shock this event may cause.

He said:

“This will undoubtedly be a concerning incident for those living and working in the city centre, and for Greater Manchester as a whole.

Our officers acted quickly to understand what had happened, detaining six individuals and recovering a firearm.”

He added that gun crime remains a serious focus for the force, noting that 168 firearms have been seized across Greater Manchester since 2023.

Wiggins reassured the public that this incident is considered targeted and there is no wider threat to the community.
