It started like any other casual scroll through Vinted—until second-hand shoppers began noticing something weird.
Again and again, they were seeing the exact same skirt pop up.
A flashy yellow sequin number from Zara had suddenly become everywhere.
And we’re not talking a handful—this particular skirt had been listed over 120 times.
So, what’s going on here? A fashion glitch in the Matrix?
Shoppers Are Scratching Their Heads Over the Trend
One TikTok user, Yuliya Kyrpo, couldn’t help but investigate.
She had been researching the resale scene for a reselling app she’s building when she stumbled across the glittery mystery.
The yellow skirt had practically taken over her feed.
She posted screen recordings of the listings on her TikTok account, @haip.ai, and captioned one video: “How many yellow sequin Zara skirts can you spot?” Some were listed for more than £60—and brand new, too.
No tags missing, no visible flaws.
That led her to ask the obvious question: “Is it me or has Vinted turned into Refund Centre?”
Speculation Grows About Zara Discount and Reseller Motivation
Kyrpo and her followers began piecing together theories.
One big guess? Zara might have put the skirt on major discount in-store, giving savvy shoppers the perfect chance to buy low and flip for profit.
That would explain why the platform was flooded with it, all marked up at or near full price.
“Can someone please explain why 124 people bought this skirt and are now reselling it brand new at full price?” she asked. “Surely not everyone missed their return deadline?”
It didn’t take long for her to notice a pattern.
“It looked like people were buying pieces and just immediately putting them back up for sale,” she said.
“That kind of takes the heart out of second-hand shopping.”
The Algorithm Might Be Pushing More Than Bargains
Another interesting piece of the puzzle? The way Vinted’s algorithm works.
Kyrpo said the more she scrolled, the more of the same thing she saw.
“It made me think—what’s wrong with it? Why are so many people offloading the same item?”
Sometimes people buy clothes that don’t fit right or have buyer’s remorse, she admitted.
But when over a hundred people are doing the exact same thing, something else is probably at play.
“I don’t mind paying full price for something I really want,” she added.
“But when everyone is selling it new, and there’s loads of it, it just becomes funny.
Like… it may be sold out at Zara, but trust me, it’s not sold out on Vinted!”
Online Reactions Swing Between Amused and Annoyed
Commenters on Kyrpo’s TikTok had a lot to say.
One person was irritated: “Drives me insane.
It’s from the sale and people are doing it for profit!” Another pointed out: “This skirt had 70% off in my Zara the other day. Probably why!!”
Some even compared it to other resale trends.
“People did the same with kids’ clothes during the Next sale—bought them and sold them for double. It’s a joke,” one user said.
Others took a more empathetic approach, suggesting that people may have simply missed their return window.
One commenter added, “I have ADHD and forget to return stuff all the time.”
Ibiza Might Be the Real Culprit
Then came the Ibiza connection.
A few users joked that the skirt had made its rounds during summer raves and beach parties and was now being ditched en masse.
“All the people who wore it to Ibiza & now need to recoup some ££!” one wrote.
Another agreed: “I wore this skirt to Calvin Harris at Ushuaïa in Ibiza on Tuesday—there were five of us wearing it just in our section!”
No wonder there’s a resale explosion.
Sizing Issues Might Be a Factor Too
Others chalked it up to sizing problems.
One shopper shared: “I got this skirt and love it, but I didn’t realise when I tried it on how massive it is! I’m usually a large and could’ve fit in a small.”
So maybe the skirt wasn’t just sparkly—it was also wildly inconsistent in fit.
Zara and Vinted Yet to Respond
Zara and Vinted have been contacted for comment but haven’t yet weighed in on the skirt saga.
Until then, it remains a quirky little mystery in the world of resale fashion.
One thing’s for sure though: if you’re looking for a yellow sequin Zara skirt, Vinted has plenty.
