What started out as a regular Tuesday afternoon quickly spiraled into chaos at a Dallas high school, where a student was shot in the leg during a terrifying incident on campus.

Emergency Response Rushed to the Scene

Wilmer-Hutchins High School became the center of a major emergency response just after 1 p.m.

when first responders were called to reports of a shooting.

Dallas Fire-Rescue confirmed they arrived on site at 1:06 p.m. By 1:45 p.m., authorities announced that the active shooter threat had been neutralized.

Despite the swift police action, aerial footage showed a heavy law enforcement presence surrounding the school grounds as frightened students ran for safety, many fleeing across the field toward the nearby Wilmer-Hutchins Eagle Stadium.

One Student Hospitalized

Officials confirmed that a 17-year-old male student was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital. Fortunately, he was reported to be in stable condition.

No further information has been released about the shooter or what led up to the incident.

Parents Share Frightening Firsthand Accounts

One parent, Oscar Lilli, recounted a chilling experience. He had been at the school earlier for a meeting and had just left for lunch when he received a call from his daughter, who had heard gunfire.

“She called my son about the shots, and we came back right away.

That’s all we know,” Lilli told NBC 5. “It’s very scary because your life can change in one second.

It’s hard to hear about these kinds of problems, but there is nothing we can control.”

Another student reportedly heard five shots before locking themselves inside a classroom.

Campus Locked Down, Community Asked to Stay Away

In the immediate aftermath, the Dallas Independent School District urged families and community members to stay away from campus while authorities conducted their investigation.

A Facebook post from the district assured families that the school had been secured and that reunification plans would soon be shared.

Parents were advised to bring photo identification when picking up their children.

Counselors were made available at the stadium nearby for anyone in need of emotional support following the traumatic incident.

Not the First Shooting at This School

Tragically, this isn’t the first time violence has struck Wilmer-Hutchins High.

Just a year ago, another shooting took place on campus, also injuring a student.

That incident was traced back to a gun being smuggled past a malfunctioning metal detector—raising ongoing concerns about school safety.

The high school currently serves around 894 students, and now, the community is once again left grappling with fear and frustration as they await answers.
