After parting ways with Red Bull, Sergio Perez is reportedly in discussions for a return to Formula One, this time with Cadillac.
The Mexican driver, who struggled in the 2024 season, is now looking for a fresh start as he explores new opportunities in the sport.
Disappointing Season Ends Red Bull Journey
Perez’s exit from Red Bull came after a tough 2024 campaign, where he finished a staggering 224 points behind his teammate, Max Verstappen.
Despite Verstappen’s dominance in the Drivers’ Championship, their combined efforts were not enough to secure the Constructors’ Championship for Red Bull, which ultimately went to McLaren with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri delivering strong performances.
Talks Underway for 2026 Cadillac Entry
According to Spanish publication Marca, Perez has already initiated talks with Cadillac, the new Formula One team set to join the grid in 2026.
Reports suggest that the team is prioritizing an experienced driver, making the six-time Grand Prix winner a strong candidate.
With Cadillac securing an entry deal through General Motors, they will become the 11th team in the sport, though they won’t be able to develop their own engine until 2028.
Discussions have reportedly taken place regarding the use of Ferrari engines in the meantime.
Experience and Challenges Ahead
Perez’s experience in Formula One is undeniable, having raced for teams such as McLaren, Racing Point, and Red Bull between 2011 and 2024.
However, he has not claimed a race victory since April 2023, and throughout his time with Red Bull, Verstappen consistently outperformed him, securing four world championships.
Reflecting on the Past, Looking to the Future
Upon his departure from Red Bull, Perez expressed gratitude for his tenure, highlighting the records and milestones achieved during his four-year stint with the team.
Now, as he navigates his next move, all eyes are on whether he can secure a seat with Cadillac and make a successful return to the grid in 2026.
