Senate confirms Kimberly Guilfoyle as United States Ambassador to Greece after months of political maneuvering in Washington

Kimberly Guilfoyle is officially heading overseas, stepping into a new role as the United States Ambassador to Greece.

The former Fox News host and ex-fiancée of Donald Trump Jr. was confirmed by the Senate on Thursday in a vote that signals her next big career move: living and working in Athens.

Senate Confirms Guilfoyle in a Sweeping Package

After Congress returned from its August recess, Republicans made Guilfoyle’s confirmation a priority.

She was approved as part of a larger package that confirmed 47 other Trump nominees across government agencies.

The Senate voted 51-47 in favor of the package, officially securing Guilfoyle’s spot as ambassador.

Her swearing-in is expected next week, according to sources familiar with her schedule.

She is then set to move into the official ambassadorial residence in Athens before the end of October, succeeding Ambassador George Tsunis.

Guilfoyle Celebrates a Historic Appointment

“I am profoundly grateful to President Donald J. Trump and the United States Senate for their trust and confidence in me,” Guilfoyle said in a statement.

“It is the honor of my life to serve as the first female Ambassador of the United States to the Hellenic Republic.

Greece is the birthplace of democracy, liberty, and the rule of law — the very ideals that inspired our American Founders and continue to make America the greatest nation on Earth.”

A Smooth Path Through the Senate

Guilfoyle faced her Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on July 9 alongside four other nominees.

The hearing was largely supportive: all 12 Republicans on the committee backed her, along with one Democrat, Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire.

Questions centered mainly on U.S.-Greece relations, ties with Israel and Cyprus, and rising tensions with Turkey.

Despite her hearing in July, the full Senate confirmation was delayed two months as Democrats stalled the process for dozens of nominees until after the August recess.

Family Support During the Confirmation

Guilfoyle had a strong support network in the hearing room. Donald Trump Jr.’s 16-year-old son traveled to Washington, D.C., to be there for his almost-stepmother.

Guilfoyle’s own son, Ronan Villencey, 18, and her brother, Anthony “Tony” Guilfoyle Jr., also attended. Donny III even posed for photos with Guilfoyle after the hearing.

Though Guilfoyle and Don Jr. ended their romance last year after he began dating Bettina Anderson, Palm Beach insiders say she maintains a relationship with his five children.

From Media Star to Political Strategist

Before her role in the Trump orbit, Guilfoyle was married to Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom for five years during his time as San Francisco’s mayor.

She spent 12 years at Fox News, co-hosting the popular panel show The Five for seven of those years.

After leaving the network in 2018, she joined the pro-Trump America First super PAC, where she became a prominent campaign surrogate.

President Trump initially nominated her in December to serve as ambassador, just months after her split from Don Jr. At the time, Don Jr. publicly congratulated his former fiancée on the nomination via social media.

Looking Ahead to Athens

With the confirmation vote complete and her swearing-in imminent, Guilfoyle is preparing for a major life change.

Moving to Greece, she will step fully into her diplomatic role, representing the United States while bringing her own high-profile energy to one of America’s key allies in Europe.
