What began as a search for a missing mother in Cornwall has ended in heartbreak for her family and community.
Roxanne Roberts, 41, had been last seen on Saturday morning, prompting police to issue an urgent missing persons appeal.
Known for her distinctive black and purple hair, slender build, and 5ft 9in frame, she was reported missing from the stunning Bedruthan Steps area — a scenic stretch between Padstow and Newquay.
From Search to Discovery
Hopes of finding Roxanne safe were dashed the following day.
Around midday on Sunday, a body believed to be hers was recovered from the sea at Portreath, just a short drive from where she had last been spotted.
Emergency services rushed to the location at around 12:35 pm, with multiple ambulances, an air ambulance, and an operations officer attending the scene.
Police and Medical Response
Devon and Cornwall Police later confirmed that a woman’s body had been found in the area of Diggory’s Island and Bedruthan Steps.
While formal identification has not yet been completed, officers said the death is not being treated as suspicious.
A file is being prepared for the coroner as investigations continue.
A Son’s Heartbreak
In the wake of the news, Roxanne’s son posted an emotional tribute on Facebook, expressing his disbelief and grief: “I love you mum, I literally don’t know what to say. I still can’t process this.”
His words captured the shock felt by those who knew her.
Another Body Found Nearby
In a tragic twist, shortly after Roxanne’s body was recovered, another body was pulled from the water off Porthcothan Beach.
Police have not yet linked the two incidents, but both have sent shockwaves through the coastal communities.
Official Statements
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that Roxanne’s family had been informed and were being supported.
Meanwhile, the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust shared details of their swift response, stating that they were called to the Portreath incident at 12:19 pm and dispatched a significant emergency team to assist.
