Reminder of SASSA Social Grants Payment Dates for May
Millions of South Africans receiving social grants are always eager to know when their upcoming payment dates are.
SASSA released the payment schedule for the 2023/24 financial year. Here are the payment dates for May.
Reserved Payment Dates
The first week of the month is reserved for elderly, child, and disability grant payments.
After that, it is Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant recipients, and all other grants are paid out.
All other beneficiaries can still collect at South African Post Office branches except for the SRD recipients.
Payment Dates for May
Older person payment date- 3 May 2023 Disability grants payment date – 4 May 2023 Children’s payment date – 5 May 2023
Note: “There is no fixed payment date for the special COVID-19 SRD.”
Contingency Plans
Meanwhile, in other big news, the South African Post Office (SAPO) has been placed under provisional liquidation.
SASSA spokesperson Paseka Lestatsi said that there are contingency plans with the Post Office that they are trying to put in place to ensure that beneficiaries do get what is due to them.
Engagement between SASSA and the Post Office
Letsatsi said there is an engagement between SASSA and the Post Office.
“The COO of SASSA and the Post Office are supposed to meet this afternoon to iron out some of the hiccups.
As the organisation we are convinced that whatever that we try to work between us and the Post Office, we will make sure that the beneficiaries do get what is due to them without any distress,” he said on Monday.
