At a time in life when many are slowing down, Sarah, Duchess of York, is charging ahead with a fresh sense of purpose—and it’s all thanks to her role as a grandmother.
With four grandkids and counting, Fergie has found inspiration in the everyday challenges parents face. One of the biggest? Diapers.
But not just any diapers. Sarah is diving into the world of sustainable baby care with the launch of a new environmentally friendly nappy that she believes could make a big difference—especially for the planet her grandchildren will inherit.
A Royal Twist on Going Green
Known for her eclectic career—spanning everything from selling home appliances to writing romance novels—Fergie is now venturing into eco-conscious parenting.
Teaming up with Dr. Jason Graham-Nye and his wife Kim, she’s co-developed what they claim is the first truly compostable diaper, made in Samoa and designed with sustainability in mind.
“There are 380,000 nappies changed every single minute,” she says, “so we need a solution that doesn’t fill up landfills with plastic.”
Her project is named The Greater Good, and she hopes it will make a big impact in reducing waste while giving parents a better alternative.
A Personal Mission for Her Growing Family
With Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie both now mothers, Fergie’s got her hands full with grandchildren—two boys and two girls ranging from six months to four years old.
Being a grandmother, she says, is what fuels her drive for creating better products.
“The more grandchildren I have, the more urgency there is for compostable nappies,” she jokes—but she clearly means business.
Learning from Past Lessons
This isn’t the first time the Duchess has stepped into the business world.
She was previously involved with media investment firm Gate Ventures, which collapsed with an estimated £19 million in losses back in 2020.
But this time, her venture feels more grounded in personal values and long-term sustainability.

“It was 8pm, in a crowded area,” she shared, “and still, I felt completely unsafe.”
Now she’s warning women and girls to keep one headphone out, avoid distractions, and always stay aware.
“Mistrust everyone and suspect every man,” she said bluntly.

“I was totally shocked,” she said. “It’s humbling to know people voted for me—it means a lot.”
