On Wednesday, a team of detectives from the SAPS National Organised Crime Investigation Narcotics Unit made a significant drug bust at a self-storage facility in Derdepoort.
They seized a large haul of scheduled medicines, steroids, and various performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs), with an estimated street value of R15 million.
Uncovering the Drug Syndicate
This breakthrough comes on the heels of a recent operation where six suspects were arrested on February 11, 2025, as part of an investigation into a drug syndicate.
While two of the suspects had their charges provisionally dropped, the investigation into the syndicate’s operations continued, leading detectives to the storage facility in Derdepoort.
The Online Trading Network
Initial investigations suggest that the syndicate was running an online platform used to distribute not only steroids and stimulants but also other controlled substances.
The group allegedly operated in the shadows of the internet, supplying a wide range of illicit drugs to consumers.
Ongoing Investigations
While significant progress has been made, the investigation is still ongoing.
Authorities are continuing to track down more leads and piece together the full scope of the syndicate’s activities.
