A Ryanair flight, originally bound for Vilnius, Lithuania, encountered unexpected trouble while approaching its destination.
The plane, which took off from London Luton Airport, had begun its descent when it had to divert to Warsaw, Poland, located about 400 miles away.
GPS Interference Near the Border
The issue was traced back to a GPS signal interference that caused a disruption during the flight.
Lithuania’s air navigation service confirmed that the pilot made a quick decision to change course and land safely in Warsaw after experiencing the interference.
Investigation Underway
No other flights were affected by the incident at Vilnius Airport on that Friday, and an investigation has now been initiated to determine the cause of the interference.
This event comes on the heels of similar concerns raised last year when Russia was accused of jamming GPS navigation systems in Finland.
What Comes Next?
As authorities delve deeper into the incident, the aviation community is closely monitoring any further developments regarding GPS safety in the region.
