Toronto’s red carpet sparkled on Thursday evening as Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Reynolds made a standout appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The 48-year-old Deadpool star brought his trademark charm and a touch of classic style, donning a brown corduroy suit paired with a vintage-style Canada T-shirt.
Reynolds wasn’t alone at the premiere of John Candy: I Like Me—he was joined by none other than Colin Hanks, son of Tom Hanks, who directed the documentary.
Colin’s appearance caught many off guard: sporting a bushy salt-and-pepper beard and a noticeably slimmer frame, he looked almost unrecognizable.
Mother-Son Duo Steals Some Spotlight
Adding to the star power, Ryan Reynolds had some family support on the red carpet.
His mother, Tammy Reynolds, looked radiant as she posed alongside her son.
She wore a chic white blouse and a black polka-dot skirt, complemented by a long black cardigan and sparkling silver platform shoes.
Her signature spiky, white-gray pixie haircut made her instantly recognizable, lighting up every photo.
Colin Hanks’ Sleek, Mature Look
Colin Hanks opted for a navy-blue suit with a gray button-up shirt that highlighted his newly slimmed-down physique.
He completed his look with retro browline glasses and polished black leather shoes, giving off a stylish, grizzled vibe that perfectly matched the reflective tone of the evening.
Iconic Stars Pay Tribute
The star-studded event also welcomed Canadian comedy legend Eugene Levy.
The Schitt’s Creek actor, a longtime collaborator with John Candy, looked dapper in his classic round black glasses and a tailored ensemble, proving that age only adds to his charm.
Honoring John Candy’s Legacy
During the premiere, Colin Hanks shared heartfelt remarks about why Toronto was the perfect place to debut his documentary.
“We had numerous conversations about where the dream location would be, and the answer lies in John’s favorite song: Oh, Canada, Our Home and Native Land,” he told the audience.
Ryan Reynolds also paid tribute to the late comedian, reflecting on Candy’s enduring impact.
“John left us in 1994. He might be the greatest, most beautiful man I never met, and I would have given anything to meet him.
I’ve been obsessed with him for a long time. My suit tonight? It’s covered in John.”
Behind the Documentary
The documentary John Candy: I Like Me was first announced by Reynolds in 2022, with Amazon Prime Video picking it up in February 2023.
The film had full support from Candy’s family, including his wife Rosemary Margaret Hobor and children Jennifer and Chris.
The documentary promises intimate insights into Candy’s private life, featuring never-before-seen home videos, archival footage, and personal family interviews.
Fans can also look forward to glimpses of Candy’s on-screen magic alongside Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson in Volunteers (1985) and in Splash (1984), where he starred opposite Hanks and Daryl Hannah.
