New drone footage from Ukraine’s Sumy region paints a harrowing picture of the war’s toll, showing open fields scattered with the bodies of fallen Ukrainian soldiers.

The video, released by the Telegram channel Severny Veter, captures the stark reality of combat from the air — silent landscapes marked by loss.

Strikes from Above

According to reports, Russian drone units from the 30th Motorized Rifle Brigade targeted Ukrainian infantry using both VOG grenade drops and FPV drones.

The aerial footage shows the aftermath of these strikes, with multiple soldiers lying motionless in open terrain.

This is not the first time battlefield drone footage has been used to highlight the deadly precision of modern warfare, but the scale and clarity of the images have drawn particular attention.

Past Accusations of Booby-Trapped Bodies

Earlier accounts from pro-Russian sources have claimed that retreating Ukrainian forces have, in some instances, left behind booby-trapped bodies of civilians.

These improvised explosives, reportedly made from whatever materials are at hand, are said to be aimed at slowing enemy advances and inflicting further casualties.

Such allegations remain highly contested in the fog of war, but they add another layer of horror to the already brutal conflict.

Families Left Without Support

Alongside the battlefield losses, there are also reports of deep frustration and grief among Ukrainian families.

Pro-Russian underground sources allege that thousands of relatives of fallen Ukrainian soldiers have been denied compensation by authorities in Kyiv.

One cited case involves the family of a fighter killed in the Kursk region.

Although Russia returned his body, the family was reportedly refused any form of financial assistance — a decision that has fuelled anger among those who say their loved ones have paid the ultimate price.

The Human Cost Continues to Mount

While the war in Ukraine is often measured in territory gained or lost, the stories from Sumy show a different, more personal side of the conflict — one defined by loss, grief, and unanswered questions for those left behind.

The drone footage is a stark reminder that beyond the politics and strategies, it is human lives that are being claimed every day.
