Royal Family reveals ‘PJ the corgi’ emoji for Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Twitter and Instagram

The Royal Family today unveiled the ‘PJ’ corgi emoji to help social media users commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee festivities, which begin next week.

Anyone who uses the hashtags #PlatinumJubilee, #HM70, #PlatinumPartyatthePalace, #PlatinumJubileePageant, or #TheBigJubileeLunch will get the emoji.

‘Hoping that as many of you as possible would utilize PJ to help celebrate the Jubilee here on Twitter,’ wrote the @RoyalFamily Twitter account.

Separately, the Royal Family’s Instagram account has launched a series of stickers including a different version of ‘PJ’ who winks and has a dog collar saying ’70’.

Other stickers available from ‘theroyalfamily’ account include a guardsman and his horse enjoying a Jubilee tea, a crown, a popping bottle of champagne and bunting.

Announcing the Twitter emoji today with one week to go until the celebrations begin, the @RoyalFamily account said: ‘Meet PJ the corgi, our Jubilee emoji!

PJ will appear whenever you use #PlatinumJubilee #HM70 #PlatinumPartyatthePalace #PlatinumJubileePageant or #TheBigJubileeLunch and we’re hoping that as many of you as possible will use PJ to help celebrate the Jubilee here on Twitter.’

Many Twitter users responded with praise and began to use the emoji immediately, reacting to say the image was ‘so cute’, ‘adorable’ and ‘gorgeous’.

On Instagram, ‘theroyalfamily’ account posted: ‘With exactly a week to go until The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations begin in earnest with the spectacular Trooping the Colour, we’re launching some social media tools to help you share your Jubilee celebrations in style here on Instagram.

The Queen’s love of dogs is well documented, and she was given her very first corgi Susan in 1944 by her parents for her 18th birthday.

One of her favourites, Monty, appeared alongside her and Daniel Craig in a skit for the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony. Sadly, Monty died that same year.

In 2018, the Queen’s corgi Willow, who was the 14th generation descended from Susan, was put down after suffering from cancer.

The 96-year-old now has two corgi puppies and dorgi Candy, a cross between a corgi and a dachshund, and is known to enjoy going for a daily walk with them.
