After weeks of high tension and emotional courtroom exchanges, Tiffany Meek is now just hours away from finding out whether she’ll be granted bail.
Accused of the unthinkable—the murder of her 11-year-old son, Jayden-Lee Meek—her formal bail hearing wrapped up on Monday, 28 July at the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court.
The courtroom was filled with emotion and intensity as both sides delivered their final arguments, bringing a close to proceedings that began over ten days earlier, on Friday, 18 July.
Prosecutors Paint Meek as a Flight Risk
The State came out strongly against granting Meek bail.
Their core argument? That she might flee if released, especially since she can work remotely and wouldn’t be tied to one place.
Prosecutors also highlighted that the alternate address she listed in KwaZulu-Natal isn’t secure or stable—and may even pose a safety risk to her.
Adding to the drama in court, Meek couldn’t hold back her emotions.
She wept openly as the State presented its closing argument, painting a bleak picture of her intentions and trustworthiness.
Defence Pushes Back on Bail Objections
Meek’s defence team, however, argued that the State had failed to provide concrete proof that she intended to run.
They pointed out that just because someone could move around doesn’t mean they would.
Their stance was clear: speculation and assumptions shouldn’t be enough to deny someone their liberty—especially in the absence of hard evidence.
Chilling Allegations and a Damning Metaphor
In one of the more haunting moments of the proceedings, the prosecutor described the evidence against Meek as being like “a train on train tracks”—inevitably leading to her.
According to the State, everything collected at the scene points directly to her as the one responsible for her son’s death.
They also accused Meek of being deceitful and manipulative from the beginning of the investigation.
It’s not just about the murder charge either—Meek is facing several others, including defeating the ends of justice, crimen injuria (which refers to unlawful, intentional impairment of someone’s dignity), and obstructing the course of justice.
The Court Holds Its Breath for Tuesday’s Ruling
Jayden-Lee’s tragic death back in May has sparked shock and outrage.
Meek was arrested earlier this month, and the case has stirred strong emotions from the public and legal community alike.
Now, all eyes are on the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court.
The magistrate is expected to announce the decision on Meek’s bail application on Tuesday, 29 July.
That decision could significantly alter the course of this high-profile case.
