Retired Brazilian footballer Ronaldo Nazario has chosen Lionel Messi as his favorite to win the 2023 Ballon d’Or award
Messi is among the frontrunners for the award this year, along with Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe.
Speaking in an interview with TNT Sports, Ronaldo said that Messi should win the Ballon d’Or without a doubt, especially after leading Argentina to victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
“What Messi did in the World Cup was special. It reminded me of the campaigns of Pele and Maradona,” Ronaldo said.
In addition to winning the World Cup, Messi also won the French Super Cup and Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain before joining Inter Miami in the summer.
He finished last season with 21 goals and 20 assists in 41 games across competitions for PSG.
The 2023 Ballon d’Or award will be announced by French news magazine France Football next week.
