Rising talent Neo Rapoo is making waves in South African football, especially for SuperSport United.
As a 19-year-old, he has quickly carved out a niche for himself in the competitive landscape of the Betway Premiership, showcasing his skills and determination on the pitch.
A Promising Start
Under the guidance of coach Gavin Hunt, Rapoo has become a regular starter for Matsatsantsa this season.
His contributions have already been significant, with seven appearances in various competitions and helping the team secure three clean sheets.
His ascent to the first team came after impressive performances in the DStv Diski Challenge with the reserve squad, marking the 2022/23 season as a pivotal point in his young career.
Sharing the Field with an Idol
In a recent chat with FARPost, Rapoo shared his awe at the chance to play alongside his football idol, Thulani Hlatshwayo.
For him, it’s not just a dream come true but also a remarkable opportunity to learn from someone he has long admired.
Rapoo fondly recalled a moment from his youth: “There’s a picture I took with Tyson when I was about 12 or 13,” he said.
He mentioned how his mother reminded him of that picture when Hlatshwayo signed with SuperSport, saying, “The guy who took a picture with me so long ago, now you’re playing with him.”
His excitement was palpable as he reflected on the surreal nature of this experience, emphasizing how much it means to him.
“I was out of this world; I was so happy, I didn’t know what to say,” Rapoo expressed.
“Seeing a person that I look up to and now I’m playing with him shows that I’ve managed to stay grounded and keep working hard.”
Learning from Experience
Rapoo acknowledged the valuable guidance he receives from Hlatshwayo, who has been instrumental in his development as a player.
“He’s so hard on me; he knows coach Gavin more than I do since they worked together at BidVest Wits,” Rapoo explained.
They often engage in conversations about improving his game, and Hlatshwayo consistently encourages him to work hard and stay fit, even during his personal time.
With such mentorship and a strong work ethic, Rapoo is poised for a bright future in football, ready to make his mark in the sport he loves.
