Manchester United Struggles in First Half at Fulham
Manchester United’s performance at Fulham was nothing to write home about, as they failed to break the deadlock in the first half.
Despite the need for points to boost their standing in the Premier League, the Red Devils appeared lackluster, and Fulham looked more likely to make a breakthrough.
Rio Ferdinand’s Blunt Criticism
During halftime, Rio Ferdinand, offering his analysis on TNT Sports, didn’t hold back in expressing his thoughts on the team’s poor first-half display.
The former Manchester United defender was especially critical of one player in particular—striker Rasmus Hojlund.
“I’d be surprised if he’s not getting a few fingers pointed at him in the dressing room,” Ferdinand remarked.
He went on to highlight Hojlund’s loose play, particularly his turnovers, which he felt hindered the team’s offensive flow.
Hojlund’s Struggles in the First Half
Ferdinand emphasized that Hojlund’s lack of awareness in key situations was frustrating.
He pointed out that the striker wasn’t making runs early enough and struggled with possession, which led to giveaways.
According to Ferdinand, United’s best moments in the first half had come from their three center-backs, which says a lot about the team’s overall performance.
The Second Half and United’s Defeat
The second half saw little improvement for Manchester United, and Hojlund’s frustration ended when he was substituted for Joshua Zirkzee in the 58th minute with the score still tied at 0-0.
The match eventually ended in a 1-0 loss for United, with Fulham securing the win through a late goal by Lisandro Martinez.
United’s limp first-half display and lack of urgency in breaking down Fulham left many, including Ferdinand, questioning the team’s approach on the day.
