As Easter approaches, football fans in South Africa won’t get much of a break over the long weekend.
With just weeks remaining in the Betway Premiership season, many teams are gearing up for crucial matches.
This weekend, ten of the 15 teams in the top flight will be in action, with some facing high-stakes battles as they look to secure their positions.
The Relegation Fight Heats Up
The Easter weekend kicked off with a crucial clash at the bottom of the table.
On Good Friday, Richards Bay hosted Cape Town City FC at King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium for a key relegation battle.
Richards Bay emerged victorious with a 1-0 win, thanks to a late 79th-minute goal from midfielder Thulani Gumede.
The result gave the home side a much-needed boost as they fight to avoid relegation.
Big African Matches to Watch
The action doesn’t stop there. Mamelodi Sundowns are set to face Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League semi-finals on Saturday, 19 April.
Kick-off is at 15:00, and the match promises to be a thrilling encounter between two of Africa’s most successful clubs.
Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates are also in CAF Champions League semi-final action, taking on Pyramids FC from Egypt.
Their match is scheduled for the same day at 18:00, making it a packed Saturday for South African football fans.
On Sunday, Stellenbosch FC will be on the road for their first-leg CAF Confederations Cup semi-final against Tanzania’s Simba S.C.
The match will take place at 15:00 (SA time), and Stellenbosch will be hoping to take a solid result into the second leg at home.
