It’s no secret that Kaizer Chiefs have been struggling to land big-name signings in recent seasons — and now, club legend Reneilwe Letsholonyane thinks he knows why.
According to the former midfielder, Premier Soccer League (PSL) teams are hiking up prices whenever Chiefs show interest, making it tough for the Soweto giants to seal the deal.
Letsholonyane, affectionately known as “Yeye” by fans, recently opened up about the issue, saying he believes Chiefs aren’t being given a fair shot when it comes to transfers.
Same Player, Different Price Tags?
Speaking on the Omniaudioafrica YouTube channel, Yeye didn’t hold back.
He gave a simple example to explain what he sees as unfair pricing tactics.
“If someone else is offered a player for R800, but Chiefs are asked to pay R10, that’s not ethical,” he said.
“It’s either the clubs know Chiefs won’t pay that much — or they’re deliberately pricing them out because they don’t want to do business with them.”
Letsholonyane made it clear that overpricing players when Chiefs come knocking isn’t just bad business — it’s unfair and frustrating for a club trying to rebuild.
What Should Chiefs Do in Response?
So how should Kaizer Chiefs handle this kind of transfer roadblock? Yeye believes the answer isn’t in forcing deals or overpaying.
“If clubs are putting different prices on the same player depending on who’s asking, I wouldn’t push it,” he said.
“Rather go for players who are fairly priced, and build a solid team from there.”
His message is pretty clear: don’t fall for the price trap — find value elsewhere, even if it means starting small.
A Quiet Transfer Window for the Glamour Boys
The comments come as Chiefs head into a new season after a rocky 2024/25 campaign.
They’ve brought in six new signings so far, but none of them carry the kind of star power fans have been hoping for.
With rising competition in the PSL, fans are wondering whether these signings will be enough to lift the team back to its former glory.

Do you think Letsholonyane has a point? Are PSL clubs trying to cash in unfairly when Chiefs come calling? Or is it just business?
