Orlando Pirates’ rising star, Relehobile Mofokeng, is walking a fine line as his team prepares for their upcoming Nedbank Cup match against Richards Bay FC.
At just 20 years old, Mofokeng has been a standout performer this season, but he’s also one yellow card away from a suspension.
This puts coach Jose Riveiro in a difficult position as he may need to consider leaving Mofokeng out of the lineup to avoid missing one of his brightest talents for future games.
Mofokeng’s International Appeal Grows
The talented youngster’s impressive skills have caught the attention of football powerhouses, with top clubs like Al Ahly and Barcelona reportedly keeping an eye on him.
According to a report by SoccerLaduma, Wydad Athletic of Morocco are in advanced talks with Orlando Pirates for Mofokeng’s potential transfer.
The club has reportedly made a substantial financial offer, and Pirates seem inclined to accept.
Mofokeng, considered one of South Africa’s brightest prospects, is reportedly intrigued by the idea of joining Wydad and working under his fellow South African, Rulani Mokwena.
However, despite the tempting offer, it appears that a move abroad may not be imminent just yet.
Barcelona’s Interest Surprises Mofokeng’s Father
One of the more shocking developments has been the reported interest from Barcelona.
Mofokeng’s father, Sechaba, expressed his surprise when he first heard the news.
“To be honest, I was shocked when I first heard it.
Rele and Barcelona! Those two things are on different planets in different worlds,” he said.
“But I told him, if you’re doing well, good things will come to you.”
Sechaba remains hopeful about his son’s future, adding, “If it happens that he gets a contract there, I’ll give him only three months and he’ll be shining in the FC Barcelona team.
You have to show what you’re made of, and the world will see that we have gold in Mzansi.”
Should Mofokeng Leave the PSL for an International Career?
As Mofokeng’s future is discussed, fans and pundits are wondering whether it’s time for him to make the leap from the PSL to international football.
What do you think? Should Mofokeng pursue a move abroad, or is he better off continuing to hone his skills in South Africa?
