Manchester United fans may soon say goodbye to Rasmus Hojlund as the Danish striker edges closer to a move back to Italy.
After a difficult spell at Old Trafford, Hojlund appears set to join Napoli on loan with an obligation to buy.
Struggles at Old Trafford
Hojlund arrived at Manchester United from Atalanta in 2023 for a deal worth up to £72 million, but the 22-year-old has struggled to find his rhythm in the Premier League.
Last season, he managed just four goals across 32 league appearances, leaving fans and pundits questioning his impact.
Napoli Move in the Works
According to Sky Sports, Napoli have agreed to bring Hojlund to Italy on a loan deal with an obligation to buy.
The total package is reported to be worth more than £43 million, including a loan fee exceeding £5 million.
If Napoli qualify for the Champions League next summer, they would be required to purchase Hojlund permanently for around £38 million.
Final Personal Terms Pending
While the clubs have reportedly agreed on the structure of the deal, Hojlund still needs to finalize personal terms with Napoli.
The Serie A champions, who claimed their second title in three years last season, are looking to bolster their squad ahead of another European campaign.
Reuniting with Former Teammates
A move to Naples would reunite Hojlund with former Manchester United teammate Scott McTominay, who has impressed in Italy and was named Serie A’s Player of the Year in his debut season.
Napoli have also added Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne to their roster, and both stars found the net in a 2-0 victory away at Sassuolo to kick off the defense of their title.
Left Out of Manchester United Plans
Hojlund’s lack of first-team action this season underscores his departure.
He has yet to play a minute under United manager Ruben Amorim, who deemed him surplus to requirements and placed him in the manager’s summer “bomb squad.”
With the move to Napoli, the striker will hope for a fresh start and a chance to reignite his career in Serie A.
