Rapper Tory Lanez suffers brutal stabbing injuries as inmate attacks him inside California prison housing unit

What was supposed to be just another Monday morning inside a California prison turned into a nightmare for rapper Tory Lanez.

The 31-year-old, who is currently serving a 10-year sentence, was violently attacked and stabbed multiple times at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi.

His team confirmed the shocking news in a statement on Instagram, revealing just how serious the situation had become.

14 Stab Wounds and Collapsed Lungs

Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was stabbed a total of 14 times in the early hours.

His injuries included seven wounds to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of his head, and one to the left side of his face.

Even more alarming, both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing machine as doctors worked to stabilize him.

Thankfully, according to his team, he’s now breathing on his own.

“Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through,” his reps shared.

They also added that Lanez wanted to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support.

The Attack Unfolds in the Early Morning

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed the incident, which took place around 7:20 a.m. inside a housing unit at the facility.

According to officials, staff immediately responded, called 911, and provided emergency care before Lanez was rushed to a civilian hospital in Bakersfield — roughly an hour away.

The Investigative Services Unit at the prison, the Kern County District Attorney’s Office, and the Office of the Inspector General are all now looking into the stabbing.

Lanez Is Currently Serving Time for Shooting Megan Thee Stallion

Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August 2023 after being found guilty of shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the feet during an argument back in July 2020.

The incident happened after a party at Kylie Jenner’s home in the Hollywood Hills.

He was convicted on three felony counts: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

Megan Thee Stallion’s Powerful Testimony Left a Mark

During the trial, Megan testified that Lanez yelled at her to “dance” as he shot at her feet.

She later required surgery to remove bullet fragments.

Her emotional statement ahead of Lanez’s sentencing revealed the lasting trauma she endured.

“Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace,” Megan said.

“Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”

Lanez Expressed Regret but Still Received a Lengthy Sentence

Before the judge handed down his sentence, Lanez tried to show remorse, telling the court that he wished he could undo what happened.

“The victim was my friend… someone I still care for to this day,” he said.

“Everything I did wrong that night, I take full responsibility for.”

Despite his statement, Judge David Herriford didn’t go easy on him.

He acknowledged the glowing descriptions of Lanez from his friends and family, but ultimately said, “Sometimes good people do bad things. Actions have consequences, and there are no winners in this case.”

His Legal Team Continues to Fight the Conviction

Lanez’s lawyer, Jose Baez, was vocal about his disappointment, calling the sentence “an example” due to Lanez’s fame.

He said he’s seen other cases involving death get shorter sentences.

In February, Lanez’s team filed an appeal, claiming issues with evidence and alleged misconduct by prosecutors during the trial.

Prosecutors Praise Megan for Speaking Up

Meanwhile, Megan received support from prosecutors for her courage in standing up for herself, despite facing intense public backlash.

LA County District Attorney George Gascón said he hoped Megan’s bravery would inspire others in similar situations.

Lanez Was Active on Social Media Before the Attack

Even behind bars, Lanez had kept a small online presence.

Just last week, he shared a photo from prison, appearing with several others.

But Monday’s stabbing changed everything — leaving fans in shock and his family scrambling for answers.

What Happens Next?

With the investigation now underway and Lanez recovering from life-threatening injuries, questions linger about his safety, the motive behind the attack, and how the prison will handle security going forward.

For now, Tory Lanez is alive, breathing, and, according to his team, staying hopeful.

But after a violent attack like this, the road to recovery — both physically and emotionally — is going to be a long one.
