Rafael Nadal doubts ATP Finals chances after Paris loss

After losing to Tommy Paul at the Paris Masters on Wednesday, Rafael Nadal stated that he does not anticipate being in good enough condition to mount a strong challenge at the season-ending ATP Finals.

Despite being up a set and a break against the American, Nadal was ultimately defeated 3-6 7-6(4) 6-1.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion lost his first singles match since the fourth round of the US Open in September, following which he took time off to welcome his first child.

He has never won the ATP Tour Finals, which will be held in Turin from November 13-20 this year, but he has twice reached the final.

Nadal stated, “I’m delighted to play, despite the fact that the past couple of months have not been ideal for me.”

“During the past five months, I did not spend enough time on the Tour. I don’t even mention tennis court competition. I comment on the Tour. Working out with the fellas. That is what I require…

“It is tough for me to envision coming at the World Tour Finals in sufficient condition to win an event I have never won in my whole tennis career.”
