Queen Camilla may be enjoying her summer break at Balmoral with King Charles, but she wasn’t about to miss one of her favorite traditions—an outing to the races.
The 78-year-old royal stepped away from the Scottish Highlands to attend the second day of the Ebor Festival in York, where she unveiled a special plaque in celebration of the Juddmonte International race being named the “World’s Best Race” of 2024.
Elegant Style on Show
Known for her classic style, Camilla looked polished in a pale blue coat paired with a wide-brimmed cream hat finished with a bow.
When she later removed her coat, she revealed a chic long-sleeved floral dress in shades of white, blue, and red.
The design, complete with puffed sleeves and a pleated skirt, perfectly suited the bright summer’s day.
She accessorized with her signature pearls—this time a striking four-strand necklace with diamond accents—alongside pearl earrings, stacked bracelets, and a woven Bottega Veneta handbag that matched her suede kitten heels.
Warm Welcome in York
On arrival at York Racecourse, Camilla was greeted by Chris Legard, the Vice Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, along with Bridget Guerin, Chairman of the York Race Committee, and William Derby, the racecourse’s Chief Executive.
She was also seen smiling warmly as she shook hands with the Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Martin Rowley.
The day began with her taking the salute from the RAF Falcons parachute display team, before heading to unveil the plaque and later present the trophy for the Yorkshire Oaks race.
A Patron with Passion
Camilla’s connection to York Racecourse is more than ceremonial.
As its patron since June 2024, she has shown ongoing support for the venue and its developments.
Just last year, she officially opened the newly refurbished Bustardthorpe Stand, a project that modernized a historic part of the grounds.
True to her love of horses, she was spotted in the royal box with binoculars in hand, closely following the races.
Continuing the Late Queen’s Legacy
Camilla’s passion for horses is well known and mirrors that of her late mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II.
It has even been reported that she now manages much of the day-to-day running of the late Queen’s stables, a responsibility that showcases her dedication to equestrian life.
Over the years, she has also supported several horse-related charities, from the Ebony Horse Club in Brixton to the British Equestrian Federation.
Life at Balmoral
When she’s not at the races, Camilla is enjoying her summer retreat at Balmoral Castle with King Charles.
The royal couple, along with other family members, are keeping up the long-standing tradition of gathering at the Scottish estate each summer.
Last weekend, the Queen was spotted beside her husband as he drove them to a Sunday church service.
Both royals chose smart ensembles, with Charles in a camel coat and Camilla in a striking feathered hat.
Time with Family
Earlier this week, Camilla enjoyed a more relaxed outing in the nearby village of Ballater with her daughter Laura Lopes and granddaughter Eliza.
The Queen looked effortlessly summery in a floral midi dress and jade cardigan, paired with beige wedges and stylish sunglasses.
Laura kept things casual in a denim jacket and wide-leg trousers, while Eliza opted for a trendy look with low-rise jeans and a cropped T-shirt.
The trio appeared at ease as they strolled through shops, highlighting the Queen’s love of family time.
A Touching Tribute to Veterans
Just days before her racecourse appearance, Camilla and King Charles attended a deeply moving remembrance service at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
The event, marking 80 years since the end of the Second World War, brought the couple to tears as they listened to emotional testimonies from VJ veterans.
Joined by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, the service was a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by wartime heroes.
